Plain TeX are the additional 600 or so more complex commands included by Knuth that decompose to primitives. Made up of 300 odd primitives that everything else is based on. I'd like to point out that open source software is not equivalent to being free. Regarding the money cost, I was just pointing out that there are IMO better free alternatives (Texmaker and Kile for beginners, ViM and emacs for more advanced users).Īnd yes, I have contributed to my editor (ViM), not because I had to, but because I could. Nowadays my work place is Linux-only, so I don't need to worry about that. Since I used to work in Windows and Linux often, a cross platform editor was a big help: I didn't need to get used to new interfaces.
I'm glad you have your reasons for using WinEdt 7, I was just saying that many free alternatives exist. I did say that feature wise I can't comment on WinEdt 7. No, my initial reasoning was that WinEdt 5 didn't support utf8, and for that only I don't recommend it.
